Imbolc: Building Abundant Readiness
Shifting from Lack into Abundance for a Radiant New Year, New Spring, New You
Welcome to a my seasonal posts on the Wheel of the Year. These posts are free and provide traditional insight, ways to work with the season, and reflections in the collective. Tuning into these seasonal celebrations gives a sense of relationship to this planet and the grounding sense of biophilic connection providing a platform to relate, root, and grow as a human on the spiritual journey.
I write to you from the seat of my ancestral lineage in Irish and Lithuanian culture. I feel close to the Pagan traditions of the Northern Hemisphere and you’ll find that perspective here.
Winter’s Mid-point to Spring
Now is the time where we see the glory of the increasing light in our darker days. Over Winter Solstice, I found that many people were celebrating or writing about the increase of light. However, that light was yet to come. Yes, it is important to bring light to the darkness through Solstice, a celebration much needed and deserved. Though, I find it energetically just as important to be exactly where you are—especially in regard to the seasons you are in on earth and life. Solstice is being in the darkness knowing that light will come and Imbolc is being in joy of the light that is here.
On the Pagan Wheel of the Year, Imbolc is celebrated on February 1st through sundown of February 2nd and is considered the turning point from winter toward spring. This is the moment where we psychologically process and physically gather, not only that more light is on the way but that more light is actually here.
Otherwise known as Midwinter, Imbolc is the feast day of St. Brigid who was the traditional Pagan goddess of fertility, poetry, and creativity. She was an Irish Pagan descendent and later adopted into Christianity as the patron saint of Irish nuns, newborns, midwives, dairy maids and cattle. Imbolc and the Feast of St. Brigid marks a time of fertility as there is movement toward longer days of sunlight where the warming of the environment produces fertile flowers, food, and spirit in abundant action compared to that of winter.
You may even get subtle whiffs of the spring scent from the earth warming in that longer daylight. If you’re paying close enough attention to the season, you can live cyclically with it.
The Lunar New Year
Yin Wood Snake, Living in your New Skin
In addition to Imbolc, is the Lunar New Year—a New Year celebration observed by East and Southeast Asian cultures. The start to the Lunar Calendar is marked by the New Moon mid-way between Solstice and Equinox, signaling the coming of spring and rebirth. The Lunar New Year in Chinese tradition marks the turning point between Chinese zodiac signs and is a time of worship for the coming abundant agricultural harvest.
According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2025 stands as the Year of the Yin Wood Snake. This energy signifies wisdom, personal growth, and transformation through rest, nourishment, and feminine nature.
In my writings throughout the fall and winter of 2024 (linked below), I talked about shedding the old skin and wearing the new. I wrote unbeknownst to the fact that the coming year was Year of the Snake—the perfect metaphor for shedding and living in new skin. My intuition for the collective read that the Equinox was about sensing into the shift and getting ready to say farewell to the old skin. Samhain was settling into the process of shedding the skin and letting it die with love as we connect to what is beyond us. Solstice was a dance with “What does this new skin feel like, who am I becoming, and how do I self-actualize that in the Root?”
Overall, 2025 in numerology is a Nine Year. Nine, as the final number on the single digit set before returning to zero or one, represents completions, endings, and growth into the new. So throughout this year, you may find or get a sense for your new skin if you haven’t found it quite yet. If you have found it, it’s time to understand the abundance you do have in it, learn how to work it, and allow yourself to receive more.

Moving from Lack to Abundance
In the collective, I’ve noticed more people connecting to the idea of rest, seasonal living, and decreasing hustle culture. I believe this ideology is a wonderful and a necessary turn of energy for the planet. While it will take some time to ripple into larger systems, there is power in numbers in this process. I encourage you to embrace what you can and be in your flow without force of either rest or hustle. Just like the shedding of skin, let rest help you peel back scale by scale. Gently and naturally shed the hustle and come into a cleaner skin or way of being in mindfulness. It’s a practice and as in nature, there is no rush.
In slower periods like rest, when life isn’t happening so quickly, it is easy for the mind and even the nervous system to settle into the fear state of lack. After all, we are wired for potential threat based on the primal living of our ancestors. In research, functional neuroimaging studies have demonstrated that the amygdala, a region of the brain associated with processing emotions, shows increased activation in response to negative or threatening stimuli compared to inducing joyful or happy stimuli. It is easier for our brains to circulate our thoughts around the sense of lack rather than it is the sense of abundance.
Slower times can make it feel like there is not enough presently available or to come, that we will be without indefinitely. This lack mentality that has fueled society and hustle culture and it’s leading to burn out.
We are still very much so in the season of winter and therefore, we are in a season of physical lack. However, Winter shows us the lack around us in order to turn to appreciation for the spiritual abundance within us. Thanks to The Wheel, we know that the seasons do change and the abundance of growth and harvest will come. The winter season is vital to reminding us how to source our abundance by taking a look at what we do already have and working gently to imagine ways to create more.
The Energetics of Imbolc—Lack to Abundance
From the studio: Perspective and Guidance of a Reiki Energy Practitioner and Coach
At this point, the major theme showing up with clients, after the solstice and moving toward spring, is the shift from lack into abundance. The energy in the body of my clients presents through the Third Eye and the Throat centers.
Rest is where we find safety, shelter, and we ingrain it into our systems—it lands in the Root Chakra which I wrote about over Solstice and Yule. When we take pause to notice that one: our lack is coming from perceived fear, and two: that we actually have everything we need, we can self-actualize into safety. When we are settled into the safety of our Root Chakra-representing trust in our physical and basic needs, we can much better flow to create from that stability.
The difference in moving from lack to abundance is using wintering periods for pausing to rest, take stock, evaluate, and then choose differently. Imbolc is the season to do that, it is the season to evolve.
The Third Eye Center—the space of perception and intuition or thought processing—creates the shift in perspective by using perception or intuition in seeing beyond the physical. We shift from one state to another through the lens of acknowledgement in where we are, what we have, and where we want to go. The beauty of the Third Eye is that it can swiftly and easily change by realizing that what we perceive isn’t always permanent.
The Throat Center rules internal and external dialog or expression. The story or narrative you tell yourself is a vibrational state that repels or attracts and becomes the reality you live. Based on the perspective you have, you are going to have an inner dialog that turns into an outer expression and vibrationally, the world will respond to that vocal resonance.
When we are stuck in the fear that we do not have enough, we are stuck in lack. This ungrounds the Root Chakra and our narrative and perspective are in a space of believing and expressing that we do not have enough. When we shift the Third Eye perspective and the Throat’s narrative into recognizing and telling ourselves what we do have, we feel resourced and move into abundance or readiness to receive abundance. When we feel resourced, we feel we have the tools to create more.
One example I’ve seen in clients and myself comes from the idea of money. First and foremost, let’s make clear that abundance can be anything. You can have an abundance of love, friends, physical items, gratitude, space, time, etc. An abundance of money is actuality prosperity. However, many people relate abundance to money.
So let’s take the easy route in and talk abundance and money, I’ve included some other examples as well— if you’re feeling lack or desire of another object, insert it into the place of money in the following sentences.
First come back to the core of abundance—to have a lot of something.
Then, disconnect the idea of abundance from money and reconnect the idea of abundance to the things you do actually have.
Following, recognize that you have an abundance of something or that your needs are cared for (even if it’s down to the last straw), here you recognize you have a resource, you have what you need. There’s a sense of safety in knowing that you simply have— whether it’s just enough or more.
From there, using the Root’s energy to feel settled and safe, shift your perspective and so forth your narrative, trust that what you do have can get you to where you want to go bit by bit.
With this resource you can take action to create more of something else you desire.
Let’s say with money: your rent or mortgage is paid with just enough.
With friends: you have a few good ones and they meet most of your needs.
With love: you have family and friends that love you or even some self-love.
With clients: you have a few and it’s taught you something.
Allow yourself to feel settled and safe in that in the things you do have.
But you desire more—so now that you trust the basic need is met, use your energy to find ways to create more of what you want.
Money: I feel safe in my bills being paid, I am abundant there, I am open to more.
Friends: I feel good about the people who do love me, I am abundant there, I am ready for a friend with “x” character traits.
Love: I am loved and I love myself, I am worthy of having love in my life, I feel safe and am ready to express love more deeply with “x”.
Clients: I am grateful for the client’s I do have, they teach me and show me my worth in our work, I am ready to expand this
This creative energy that you’re ready for becomes the new perspective, it becomes the narrative, and that narrative opens your field to continue to receive more of what you want to create.
Look at all of the work you’ve done and tell me what you gained from it. If your narrative is that you don’t have a whole lot, you will continue to live that way. You will continue to see that way and you will continue to tell the same story. If your narrative is around what you do have, small or large, you will feel abundant and want to continue to attract or create more. Even if you feel you’ve only made really small steps in your idea of progress, you still have made something and that counts. Count from what you do have and you will acquire more.
Imbolc is the season to recognize that yes resources may be sparse, but that doesn’t mean you can’t shift that into plenty by accounting for what you already have and picking up motivation to receive more. You have to be open to what’s available, including potentialities and opportunities. Midwinter reminds us of that shift that’s coming. Allow yourself to open to it. Continue to ground and nourish through warmth to help the body transition from the colder to warmer days. These shifts don’t happen over night. Like myself and my clients, we’ve put in the work to constantly assess our self-worth and deservingness. Ultimately, through that, we’ve taken our time shifting into the next phase and we’re ready to receive.
Happy Midwinter! I hope you feel abundance in your life and if not this post inspired you to shift into abundance mindset. Thanks for your time today—if you’d like to integrate this post and work with the seasonal energy, read on below.
Integrating Imbolc
If you haven’t felt the sense for new skin or a new energy coming into your awareness, energetic field, or connection to yourself, continue to take some time to create space to let it emerge. Slow down, rest, and realize that you have everything you need to create more. You will create more when you take the time to feel into that new skin of yours. You still have the second half of winter, moving toward spring, to develop your senses for your new skin and the abundance you seek to create. Imbolc brings you reminders of Spring’s abundance to source what you need.
If you have felt the sense of newness around you, how is your relationship to it? Do you feel a sense of connection or a sense of lack around it? Are you feeling the connection but fearful of how it’s going to prevail? Are you unsure if the new sensations you’re feeling are a hallow hopefulness? Do you feel the sense of newness is the real deal shifting you into creative expression to cultivate more abundance?

Yin Wood Snake represents shedding, new skin, ref previous posts, transformation. What transformation have you been going through, what vision do you have for the new skin?
Where do you feel stuck in lack mentality?
What abundance are you seeking?
What do you already have that needs recognition to help you feel safe and settled? In other words, what are you already abundant in (even if it’s just enough).
Where do you get caught up or stuck between lack and abundance? What pressure are you feeling that you can tame to become a bit more present, still, or comfortable with?
Where do you need more rest to support your transformation?
Somatic Sensation of Openness and Readiness to Receive:
Take a few deep breaths and come into presence, stillness, or neutrality.
recognize the things you do have that you are grateful for.
feel the openness that provides.
allow yourself to connect what you want to attract more of, let it meet that openness.
practice feeling the sensation of receiving that thing or more of it—visualize or hear how it comes into your space.
Take another deep breath and allow yourself to perceive that you are safe in this reception, that it’s here for you.
Write a mantra or phrase that reminds you to come back to this open and receptive abundance sensation.
